Sally Sullivan’s Retirement from NRSD

As a photographer, I get to attend many special events and see much of the emotion that comes along with retirements and anniversaries.   While they are all special,  last week I had the privilege of attending and photographing the retirement of a very special friend and colleague – Sally Sullivan.   I’ve known Sally only for a few years, but she is one of my very favorites from the Nashoba Regional School District where she is the director of the Teaching and Learning Department.  Prior to working in the Teaching and Learning group, Sally was a teacher in Arizona, Hudson Ma,  Monty Tech and Florence Sawyer School.  She also “subbed” as a Principal at the Hale Middle School in Stow when the principal  Margaret Morgan did her exchange trip to China.

Her retirement party was held at the Nashoba Winery in Bolton, Ma. and was a surprise that did not get spilled!  Greeting the guests were likenesses of  “Sally on a stick” made by Kathy Leonardi.     Our own Joel Bates was the Emcee and DJ d’extraordinaire leading everyone in “Sally Trivia”  such as:   Question:  Why wouldn’t Sally where her purple sandals to work one day? Answer:  Her toenail polish didn’t match the purple sandals.  Question:  What is Sally’s nickname that she calls herself? Answer:Silly Sally

The hilight of the evening was the presentation of a hand-made quilt by Pat Marone. Pat hand-stitched well-wishes from the entire faculties of each of the schools in the district. She read a poem on the back of the quilt before it was presented. There was hardly a dry eye in the Winery during this presentation.  Additional photos can be seen on my photocart.

June 09 Infrared Scenery

It’s been awhile since I’ve uploaded any infrared scenery pictures.  These were taken in Stow, Ma by Elizabeth Brook on the road to Carver Hill Farm.   The day was quite sunny – perfect for dramatic skies and great contrast.   I’ve always been a big fan of black and white photography – infrared is even more fun.  You have to pre-visualize the scene. Not every photo makes a good IR shot.  I like the way it forces me to think before I trip the shutter.

Enjoy!   Note the deep B&W conversion of the last photograph.

OLA Reunion 2009

The Class of 1964 of Our Lady of the Angels Academy in Enfield, Ct.  just held their second blockbuster reunion.   As with their 40th reunion, the 45th reunion was a two-parter: a small intimate picnic for just the Class of 1964 followed the next day by a Mass in the Chapel and a brunch for all of the classes.  Opening their hearts up to the other classes was a class act and much appreciated by all the alumnae.  Laughter, tears, hugging – and looking at those old yearbooks to figure out the teachers for a contest – all had fun!  Sister Norberta, CSSF was the guest speaker.  Sister Norberta, the CEO of St Joseph Healthcare of Bangor, Maine,  was the school nurse for many of the classes present.  The festivities began with a reciting of the Angelite Pledge and ended with the singing of Pep.   A major hilight of the evening was a Jeopardy Game constructed by the Class of 64 with trivia questions taken from old yearbooks and good old memory!

The images below show some of the hilights.  To see all of the photographs, go to my photocart.    Pep, pep pep, three cheers for OLA … voices ring!
