Karen and Bob – Wedding at Gibbet Hill

Every wedding is special – but this wedding had all the elements of a very dramatic, and wonderful wedding!   Bob is a very recently-returned Iraq veteran.  Karen is a very special mother of a precious 2 year old.  Today they officially became family.   Gibbett Hill in Groton, Ma was a very fitting venue – known for its wonderful outdoor weddings with cows mooing in the background of verdent panoramic pasture and receptions held in “the Barn” - a beautifully decorated reception hall.   Would the rain hold out?   Hurricane Bill was making his last stand in New England that very day – with the weather forecast predicting 70% chance of rain, would it hold out long enough for the pasture to become the ceremony site?   Well it did … beautiful photogenic clouds but no rain!  Not that is, until 10 minutes AFTER the ceremony!  Then within an hour, an incredible double-rainbow appeared!   What a beautiful sign of all good things to come …  Enjoy a sneak preview of some of the pictures!

The full gallery is up on my photocart - Visit the Customers link above in the menu to enter the full gallery.   You can download a free image for your Facebook / Myspace friends or order prints.   Karrie Safran was my second-shooter that day. You will see both of our images in the gallery.

Commissioned sculpture – one of a kind!

Barbara Scavotto-Earley and I go back – way back!   Barb was one of my close friends in grade school.  As happens in life, we went our separate ways – and then converged once again as adults.  Barbara is now a famous sculptor.  Last year, I commissioned her to create a sculpture of one of my favorite cameras – an old ”folder camera”  from the 1920′s.   Barbara took my camera and went back to her studio to create … and create she did!  She brought my old camera to life with little figures to operate the machinery.   As with all of Barbara’s works,  she sparkles her work with her wit and animates the clay.  Her work, titled “Exposures” is a creation of acrylic painted clay.  Her attention to detail is incredible!

Barbara’s other works can be seen on her website:  http://www.scavottosculpture.com    Her work is available for sale and she welcomes other commissions.

“Exposures” will be exhibited as part of a two women show at Muse Le Belle Artiste on 1141 Main Street in the historic village of Coventry, CT….September 12 – November 8 with an opening reception on September 12 from 4-6:00…Sandy Hale’s EMPTY CHAIRS photographs and BARBARA SCAVOTTO-EARLEY’s SITuations Sculptures….the essence of the seat is ever present…

2009 Bolton Fair

What fun to go back to a fairgrounds – especially after all the rain and bad weather we’ve had this year!  Kerrie, a fellow photographer, and I went to “capture the light.”  The magic begins to happen around dusk and then continues into the night.  Once the midway lights come on, it’s all magic and serendipity.  Hand-held exposures at 1/20 th of a second in many cases is what was needed to capture the scenes – and at that at ISO 1000 and better!  Yes, I had a tripod in my car – but the car was parked several miles away and only accessible by boarding a school bus and trekking to Nashoba HS.  Nah … just leave the tripod alone and hold steady!  You be the judge – did I do it?  The night ended with fireworks – this was pretty tricky without the tripod, but I think it came out ok.
